We got word at Century yesterday that one of our longest customers, Maggie Johnson, died in a car accident over the weekend with her husband. They were 55 and 65 respectively, and had been married for almost forty years. They had been doing business with Century for almost as many years as Century has been around, and my mentor Jim considered them good friends. We're all a little greyer at Century this week.
When I was new at Century, a call from Maggie was always one of the calls in a day I could count on being pleasant. No matter the situation, Maggie was always sweet and kind, and never had a bad attitude about anything, even if an order was late or wrong. She even helped me out a lot when I was still learning, taught me a few things about selling blinds.
In a weird small world kind of thing, it turned out that Johnson Blinds was the company selling vertical blinds to the apartments I live in. The maintenance man here mentioned it to me while installing new verticals in my apartment, when I mentioned where I worked. I only had to tell Maggie she'd sold my blinds, and that I lived in Riverside, and she knew it which apartments it was. Just one of those silly little things that kinda means something.
Century, and the world, will miss you Maggie. :(
